CARE was founded in 2002 by Dr. Janet Schaefer, BCBA-D in Nevada to ensure public charter schools throughout the state were following state and federal guidelines and addressing the individualized needs of students with disabilities enrolled or identified under a wide range of program models. Since that time, the CARE team has expanded to include a group of highly qualified personnel from a variety of disciplines who provide a wide range of consultative services to school systems around the United States. Under the leadership of Dr. Schaefer, CARE has successfully implemented multi-year initiatives with school districts and state agencies, as well as participating in a federal grant designed to provide Autism-focused professional development to school personnel.
Dr. Schaefer and her team of consultants continue to provide these services to public school districts and state agencies throughout the United States today. CARE’s highly sought-after consultative services are uniquely tailored to meet the needs of the specific organization seeking services. From formalized assessment training, classroom management techniques, staff training in the use of behavioral principles, to student-specific services and more, the CARE consulting team is exceptionally capable of facilitating improvements across a wide variety of needs areas in any school setting.
In 2003, CARE began providing in-home and community-based programming to individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder along with their families in several locations throughout North America using Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and evidenced-based practices. These services were in high demand but sparsely available, leading numerous parents and professionals to continually request that the CARE team expand their availability of ABA home- and community-based services to more locations. In 2009, CARE expanded ABA services to San Antonio, TX and today continues to add new markets. Currently, CARE has remote behavioral health offices in the following locations: Nevada, New Mexico, Texas, Washington.
The agency is committed to continuing within our current markets and expanding to new markets across the United States. CARE accepts Tricare military insurance and most civilian insurance programs that cover ABA programming. The agency also has a private pay model to make service available to those individuals and families who do not have insurance coverage.
Since the inception of this service within the agency, CARE has utilized the tiered model of service in which a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) or Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA) supervises program development and ongoing treatment while a behavior technician, now called a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), provides one- on-one behavior programming to the client and his/her family across settings. As CARE has provided these services over the years, the agency has continued to develop training programs for staff and innovate the service delivery model to promote the best possible outcomes for all clients.
